Embedded Firmware Engineer: permanent

This is a FTE perm position located in Minneapolis.

EMBEDDED FIRMWARE ENGINEER

The company is a consulting organization that specializes in the wireless, FPGA, PCB, and software design realm. In addition to being a crack team of engineering all-stars, they're also partnered with one of the largest wireless networking providers in the country.


We're looking for an Engineer to design, implement, and verify firmware for embedded processor applications.  You'll plan and perform programming duties including system design and coding.  The position functions within a team of developers solving complex problems including product development planning meetings.  Primary focus is on development of C applications on 8-32 bit microcontrollers with emphasis on low-level drivers.

Firmware Design:
- developer requirements and specs docs based on customer input.
- architect and design firmware based on these requirements.
- active participation in firmware process development improvement.
Firmware Implementation:
- develop to project milestones and schedule.
- develop applications with or without an RTOS.
- coordinate with hardware engineers to develop firmware on newly designed hardware.
- participate in peer code reviews.
Firmware Verification:
- develop detailed test plans for firmware verification, with customer approval.
- complete tests per plan, directing other resources as required.
- complete firmware test documentation for customer approval.

Requirements:
- Experience: 5+ years experience with C applications development on microcontrollers.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
- Good communication, verbal/writing skills, ability to develop requirements from vague or ambiguous inputs.
- Schedule focused mindset.
- Proficient with Oscilloscopes, Logic Analyzers and USB Protocol Analyzers
- Embedded firmware development (without RTOS)
- RTOS experience desirable
- Working knowledge of software source control tools
- Wireless experience desirable. (802.15.4, Zigbee, Cellular)
