SOFTWARE ENGINEERING MANAGER
 
You'll be responsible for the development of software products (feature and service releases) and associated development processes. You'll also be responsible for resource staffing, assignments, scheduling and tracking of their team.
 
CORE EXPECTATIONS:
 
- Manage a team of development engineers with the focus on high quality and time
to market
- Provide leadership on all phases of the development effort for maintenance and
service releases
- Work with a cross-functional team to define the overall project schedule, task
assignments for team members and tracking the progress against plans
- Direct the team in setting strategy and goals, translating the goals into day-to-day
activities and ensuring focus for each team member
- Develop processes and standards for maintenance and service releases
- Attract, maintain and coach a high performance team utilizing individual goal
setting, performance appraisals and career counseling to team members
- Act as the team's focal point for progress reports relating to support trouble tickets
that have been escalated into the group
- Represent team in weekly maintenance/service release meetings
- Oversee and participate (when necessary) in the teams contribution or input into
the definition of a particular product direction
- Oversee and participate (when necessary) in the relationship with third party
partners, vendors and customers
- Interface with directors, product managers, product marketing, support, sales, and
customers to assist planning and ensure high customer satisfaction
- Other core expectations will be defined by your direct supervisor/manager
CORE COMPETENCIES
- Ability to communicate clearly on a daily basis in verbal and written form to
audiences ranging from 50 or more people with a wide range of cultures and
backgrounds
- Able to manage difficult and stressful customer situations
- Must possess attention to detail and a sense of urgency
- Capable of simultaneously managing several tasks
- Excellent leadership and personnel management skills related to team motivation,
goal setting and performance appraisals
- Excellent software development process background utilizing a structured
methodology that spans cross-functionally
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
Strong knowledge of the use of object oriented software development using C++
and/or Java programming languages
- Significant experience managing a team through the various phases of Product
Development Life Cycles (Concept, First Customer Ship, End of Life, etc.)
- Other core competencies will be defined by your direct supervisor/manager
WORKING RELATIONS
- Report to Director of Engineering or higher
- Ability to work closely with peer group leaders and other employees and
departments in the company
- Direct work with customer and partners in a leadership role
- Provides leadership direction within company on small projects and tasks and
provide follow up feedback to team on performance
 
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
 
- B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent
- 8+ years of experience with C++, Java or similar Object-Oriented language and 2-4
years at a senior level
- 5+ years of experience managing a software development team
